Sunken beds vs Raised beds
It depends on where you live.
If you live in a warm place with not that much rainfall, you should be using sunken beds. Sunken beds help to capture a little bit of the rain that fall to keep the soil inside the bed moist.
If your area has a lot of wind, you should also use sunken beds. The bed is lower than the soil level. So that means that the wind can’t dry it that fast.
But if there is a lot of rainfall in your area, don’t use sunken beds. Use raised beds. Otherwise, the sunken beds will fill with too much water. And this can rotten the roots.
What is the upside to hydroponics
The plants in a hydroponic system will grow faster than normal. They will take less space than when you plant them in the ground. That’s because when they are in a hydroponic system, the roots won’t have to go deep in the ground to search for water. The water is brought directly to them. So this will take less space per plants which gives you the opportunity to plant more plants in less space.
Tomato pruning guide
There are determinate and indeterminate tomatoes. Determinate grow to a certain height and starts blooming. After the tomatoes have ripen, the plant will die. But indeterminate tomato blooms and keeps growing. They can get very long.
Pruning is only for indeterminate tomatoes. If you don’t do this, the plant will become too bushy.
What you have to do is, cut the plants that grow between the stems and the leaves. They are called suckers. Most of the times, the suckers won’t give that much tomatoes compared to the main plant. Some people let them grow. Other cut them off. It’s better to do this because then there will be more nutrients going to the flowers growing on the main plant.
Cut the suckers as soon as you see them. Before they become large. When the suckers are large, you can cut them and start growing another tomato plant from them. They will start rooting very fast. But be careful when you’re cutting them. They aren’t that easy to cut off when they are large. Be careful not to cut the main plant.
